Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (BMTC) has proposed to start its ‘first’ dedicated lane service on the Majestic-ITPB route. It is yet to discuss the plan with the BBMP and traffic police.
The corporation currently operates 300 buses from Majestic to ITPB. It plans to the ply ITPB-bound buses on the extreme left lane of the existing road, on experimental basis. No other vehicles will be allowed in that reserved lane.
Chief traffic manager (operations) Prabhudas said, “I have travelled from Majestic to ITPB during peak hours. It took almost two hours to reach your destination. If we have dedicated lane, buses can move faster and a majority of the passengers, who are techies, will benefit in a big way. If this pilot project becomes successful, we will implement the same in other corridors of the city. On roads, which have less width, there will be mixed traffic.” ...
