You can break at Woody's in Kolar for a break depending on your interests and timing. Route in itself is not very scenic except for the rustic villages through the border town that you would pass through driving.
Places of interest: Kaiwara (Kaivara), Kotilingeshwara, Bangaru Tirupati and Avani
Bangaru Tirupati has Lakshmi Venkateswara temple. Avani is around 10 kms
Avani is where Sita gave birth to lava-kusha and the famous Ashwamega Yaga took place. You can hire a guide for a small fee to walk you through the place and its mythological significance.
Tips: Weather would be relatively hot with Sun beating down on rocky hilly regions. You can find blocks and blocks and rocks all over. Do carry lots of water and liquid suplements to keep you hydrated. Avani would require climbing steps and that does take toll in hot sun.
