MANTRALAYA PILGRIM DIES ON RETURN TO CITY

One of the Mysoreans, who had been to the flood-hit Mantralaya on a pilgrimage, has died on her return to city.

Nirmala Urs, wife of Ramaraje Urs, a resident of KHB Colony, Chamundipuram, who was undergoing treatment at Apollo BGS Hospitals, breathed her last here this morning.

Ramaraje Urs, Nirmala Urs, their daughter Prema Urs, son-in-law Nagaraje Urs, daughter-in-law Vandana Urs, grand-children Nikhita and Nihan had left for Mantralaya on Sept. 26.

They were caught in the floods while preparing to leave Mantralaya after the darshan of Sri Raghavendraswamy. The Andhra Government had arranged tractors for ferrying the stranded pilgrims, including the Urs family.

Meanwhile, Ramaraje Urs and Nirmala boarded the tractor while the rest of the members boarded another tractor. As the tractors travelled in different directions, only the elderly couple reached Mysore while five others are expected to arrive in different routes.

Nirmala Urs, who was ill, was admitted to Apollo BGS Hospital. The five others, who left Ananthpur last evening, reached Mysore this morning.

Mysore -Paduvarahalli pilgrims return safely from Mantralaya

A group of 14 pilgrims from Paduvarahalli, who had been to Mantralaya, returned to city safely yesterday.

They were stranded in the third flour of TDH Hotel in Mantralaya. They managed to climb down at 10.30 am yesterday and walk up to a distance of about 5 kms as the water level receded. After having food at a gruel centre set up by the government, they travelled back to Mysore.

Lakshman, who was amongst the pilgrims, informed his friend Raju that the Tempo traveller driver who took them from Mysore to Mantralaya had lost contact with them and his whereabouts could not be traced.

As flood waters surrounded Mantralaya until late on Friday night, they spent two days on the top floor of the lodge. They walked upto a distance of 5 kms, where they found a village for taking the much needed rest.

At the same time, they came to know that a gruel centre had been set up in a school, where they had some food, according to the information received by Raju from Lakshman.

Some buses were plying to this village and they would leave for Mysore by the next available bus, according to Lakshman.

A total of 14 pilgrims including Paduvarahalli 4th Main Road resident Lakshman and his four children, had left for Mantralaya in a tempo traveller. Manjunath, a paint contractor who was among the pilgrims, told Star of Mysore that the Andhra Government had provided them free bus facility from Mantr-alaya to a village from where they had to catch a bus to Adoni and another bus to Ananthapura at 2 pm yesterday which brought them to Bangalore. They arrived in Bangalore at 2.30 pm today and reached Mysore at 5 am.
