Place of Pilgrim Centre’s, Learning centre and Beaches – Uttara Kannada
For all those who love travelling and visit one place having pilgrim centres, learning centre and beaches, in Karnataka is place that you would want to visit, Uttara Kannada.
Tourist Attraction: Known for rivers - Sharavathi, Bedthi, Kali, Aghanashini, Shalmala. There are waterfalls and beaches, temples and parks. Gokarna and Murudeshwara of Ramayana fame, Sonda Math, Sri Marikamba Temple, Karwar beach, Amshi National Park, waterfall at Magod, Lalguli, Shivaganga, Unchali and Maile Mane, unique rock pillars at Yana, Beautiful Banavasi, Dandeli wildlife Sanctuary.
Karwar: 519 kms north-west of Bangalore is Karwar. The district headquarters of Uttara Kannada; this is ideal place to relax. Uttara Kannada has sacred pilgrim centres, historical towns and some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. The Devbagh beach id a must for beach lovers.
Gokarna around 60kms from south of Karwar, this coastal town has, among other things an ancient temple with the Atmalinga. Gokarna is a famous centre from Sanskrti learning. The Om beach and the Kutle beach are nearby.
Banavasi and Yana:It is an historical place near Sirsi. A temple town mentioned in the Hindu epics Ramayana dna Mahabharatha. 60kms from here is Yana, a small village with unique rock formations. Yana is also popular rock climber’s hunt.
Bhatkal:135kms south, is a historicl township. The ancient port town has temples of Vijayanagar times and many interesting Jain monuments. 16kms away is a scenic holy place of Murudeshwar. The temple here attracts lot of devotees and tourists.The Pigeon island is off the Murudeshwar coast. The beaches at Gokarna, Bhatkal and Murudeshwar are thankfully unspoilt.
Shivaganga Falls:14okms away amidst scenic surroundings, the river Souda falls into deep valley from a height of 74m to form the falls.
Dandeli:93kms from Karwar is a popular holiday resort. The wildlife sanctuary here abounds with a variety of rare animals. The cave of Shivaganga like laterite formations is also well worth a visit.
Magod Falls:80kms from Karwar, is a scenic delight. The bettie river plunges into a 180m rocky valley in two leaps.
Lalguli Falls:This is a picturesque waterfall formed by the river Kali. The Malemane falls also deserve a visit.
Accessibility: Karwar is well-connected by road to Goa,Belgaum,Hubli-Dharwar,Mangalore and Mysore, also connected by the Konkan railway.
